quicker feet for a quicker pop-time

Mechanics

Hand exchange

  • Begin on knees playing catch.
  • Focus on hand exchange, keeping hands up, elbow down.
  • Focus on pointing front shoulder towards target.
  • Drop glove knee,  keep backside tall.
  • This drill can be done with medicine ball individually.
  • Also a good way for 2 catchers to warm up.

Hand exchange to power line

  • Begin in secondary position.
  • Receive pitch.
  • Complete hand exchange and pop into throwing position.
  • Align feet with target and check body position.
  • Stay in your legs, bent knees and low front and tall back side.
  • This drill can be done with the medicine ball.

bucket throws

  • Begin sitting on a bucket, glove side shoulder pointing towards 2nd, facing the person feeding you.
  • The idea of the drill is to create quick hands with a clean and complete hand exchange to ball above ear and arm finishing across the body.
  • Increase  feeders speed with reps to the point of rapid fire drill.

45 degree throws

  • Begin standing with front shoulder pointing to 2nd base  facing the feeder.
  • Focus on quick hand exchange, and complete throw down.  

90 degree throws

  • Begin with your back to 2nd base standing, facing the feeder.
  • Along with hand exchange, pop your feet into power line with 2nd and throw down

Block and throw

  • Begin in secondary position.
  • Block Dirt ball.
  • Retrieve ball with both hands.
  • Set feet to throw to the base.

Rollers

  • Start in your secondary
  • Feeder will roll ball to you, forcing you to be patient and wait for the ball to get to you.
  • Complete throw downs from knees and feet. 

Throw downs

  • Perform  throws to each base.
  • Throw from feet.
  • Throw from knees.
