Week 2

slot, on plain, knob to 2nd

mechanics

Tee Work

Inside wall swing

  • Line up facing a wall, fence or net.
  •  Holding your bat with both hands start as far away from the wall as your knuckles reach.
  • Go through your swing, focusing on the slot movement and knob of the bat pointing towards 2nd  base, which will allow your swing to clear the wall.
  • Continue to inch a little closer to the wall as you feel comfortable clearing.  don't hit the wall!
  • This should begin at a slower speed and increase with reps.

Belly button snaps

  • This is the action as the slot elbow just about reaches the hip.
  • The top half and lower half are separated creating tension, slot is leaving the barrel behind, on plane.
  • Firing the hips, or "snapping your belly button" as the slot elbow comes through gets the lower half and core involved.
  • Snap belly button from from neutral closed position to contact point.
  • Maintain balance at finish, not falling backwards from to much rotation.
  • Make them fast and snappy!

Front arm swing

  • Choke up on the bat gripping the top of the grip with your front hand.
  • Place your back hand on your front bicep to help brace the weight of the bat and avoid your swing from dipping.
  • You will have to get a little closer to the ball than usual,  the length of your bat is being shortened from choking up.
  • Focus on feeling the bat getting on plain and getting the knob pointed towards second base.
  • Begin this drill slow and increase the speed with reps.

Back arm swing

  • Choke up on the bat gripping the top of the grip with your back hand.
  • Place your front hand on your back bicep to help brace the weight of the bat and avoid your swing from dipping.
  • You will have to get a little closer to the ball than usual,  the length of your bat being shortened from choking up.
  • Focus on feeling the bat getting on plain and getting the knob pointed towards second base.
  • Begin this drill slow and increase the speed with reps.

Crossover step and swing

  • Starting with your back foot stepping behind your front will keep your front shoulder closed.
  • Focus on momentum into the slot position.
  • You must post up your front leg, get your bat on plane,
  • Avoid front leg collapsing, rollover, and top coming over the front.

Full swing

  • Put it all together, tracking the pitch from the pitcher.
  • Start slow  and increase speed of swing with reps.
  • mechanically focus on pitch down the middle, driving the ball to center field.
